Scientific and Educational Centre of the M.A. Bulgakov Museum
2019-2022
The overall principle of functional zoning of the premises, transitioning from open public spaces to restricted access areas, is determined by logistical requirements, the geometry of the existing space, and acceptable noise levels in various zones.
The entrance to the library is located on the western facade, aligned with the central reading hall. The space can be logically divided into two wings: the northern and the southern. The vestibule, situated along the windows of the western facade, serves as a connection between them.
The central core of the library comprises the vestibule and the general reading hall, housing the main book collection. To the right of the entrance to the general reading hall, there is a niche with lockers featuring code locks arranged in two rows. On the left, near the entrance to the general reading hall, there is a unified service desk.
The reading hall's space accommodates various types of interactions with books and computer work (both personal and library-based): quiet collaborative or solitary work (three seats at a common table), secluded reading or work in an armchair (one seat), reading or work in an armchair by the window (two pairs of armchairs), and computer workstations (two seats).
The southern wing of the first floor houses the liveliest part of the library - the assembly hall. It can accommodate up to 40 people and is equipped with a ceiling-mounted projector.
In the northern wing, there is a sequence of spaces, including a lounge area with two groups of soft furniture, an 8-seat café with the option to use the terrace in warm weather, and a music department consisting of a listening area for audio recordings and a music lounge with a piano (for musical evenings). An auditorium for classes and other gatherings is located nearby.
In the remote northern part of the library, you'll find the research department with restricted access. It consists of the head of the department's office, a room for storing rare and particularly valuable books, and a workspace for working with archival materials, along with a place to store archival materials.
